Power units equipped with NPO Saturn-made engines have logged over two million hours in service

Site news 9.07.2013

July 9, 2013, Rybinsk. – As of July 2013, the overall time in operation accumulated by the NPO Saturn-made turbines has exceeded 2 million hours.
As the designer and manufacturer of industrial gas turbines, NPO Saturn offers a full range of industrial gas turbine machinery of low, medium and high power capacity for use in thermal power plants, utility power grids, by industrial companies and at oil and gas fields, namely:
- the DO49R, GTD-6/8RM and GTD-4/6,3/10RM to be used as part of thermal power plants and pumping stations with the cumulative (electric / mechanical) power capacity ranging from 2,5 to 80 MW and higher;
- the GTD-110 gas turbine, power plants and combined-cycle plants derived from it (GTE-110, PGU-170/325/500) to be used as part of gas turbine thermal power plants with the cumulative electric power capacity going from 110 to 500 MW and higher.
The customers for this equipment are the companies in the gas-production industry and power generation companies. Prospects of delivering these turbines to foreign partners are under study.
To date the company has manufactured and delivered around 210 gas turbines from its product line to over 50 operators in 45 different locations. The geography of deliveries spans the broad territory of the Russian Federation (from Kaliningrad to Sakhalin).
An integral part of any large-scale business specialized in high-tech product manufacturing is the organization and efficient functioning of a customer support system regarding the equipment it delivers to customers.
The main fields of activity of NPO Saturn’s gas turbine engines customer support and service division are the warranty and guarantee service of the industrial gas turbine engines in operation comprising the issue of service documents and implementation of service bulletins.
Playing the role of an integrator for different departments ensuring the product in-service support, the NPO Saturn customer support and service division carries out analytical and organizational functions regarding the fleet status and is also in charge of the organization and coordination of spare parts distribution business.
Receiving the first-hand information with regard to serviceability, advantages and disadvantages of NPO Saturn-delivered products, the division sets up and coordinates the company’s operations aimed at improving customer satisfaction, in-service reliability and maintainability of the gas turbine engines it produces.
To perform maintenance tasks on gas turbine engines in an efficient way, the company uses the state-of-the-art equipment, means of telecommunication and robust system of training allowing to teach the division’s employees to work on the NPO Saturn products taking into account the evolution of technical requirements to operating the engines (caused by changes in design, increased time in operation and other factors). Also NPO Saturn’s Training center administers maintenance training courses for the operators’ personnel.
 In the nearest plans of NPO Saturn’s customer support and service division is the introduction of remote monitoring centers (RMC) for the in-service industrial gas turbine engines to be able to exercise on-line remote customer support and troubleshooting. First of all, this is important for the GTD-110 engines operating in a complex operating cycle and at peak loads. The goal of such centers is to integrate the engine performance permanent control functions and engine technical condition diagnostics, which in the end will drive down the costs borne by the manufacturer as well as the cost of ownership related to supporting the life cycle of a gas turbine.
As a way to further improve information support of the operators, it is envisaged to start issuing information bulletins on the newly introduced changes in design aimed at improving safe operation of the NPO Saturn product line.
