The company also pays a lot of attention to the development of technologies, methodologies and calculation tools needed for engineering new high-tech products.
Nowadays the NPO Saturn design and development bureau is fitted with the equipment for prototyping, composite material manufacturing, working with modern high-temperature materials, conducting research and testing processes intrinsic to a gas turbine engines and its components.
Many years of NPO Saturn’s work aimed at the improvement of its already existing products and development of new engines as well as the creation of a backlog of technical knowledge has allowed the company to create critical technologies and baseline design configurations for the main components of the fifth-generation military and civil engines. Besides its main application, the accumulated backlog is successfully used in the development of industrial and marine gas turbine engines of the new generation.

“This is the first time that I have studied the operations of NPO Saturn in such level of detail: I visited the main design bureau, final assembly shop and also the key test and production facilities of the company. High level of production culture, new equipment, highly-qualified young engineers and uninterrupted work; compared to my visit of NPO Saturn three years ago I have seen some radical changes, I’d say, a new life and a new company, - Vladimir Babkin shared some insight into his visit of NPO Saturn. – The SaM146 program proved to be a real breakthrough for the company; the SaM146 is the engine that has lived up to the most stringent international requirements to reliability. Special emphasis should be given to the existence of the state-of-the-art design and development bureau, the most powerful design bureau in the Russian engine-building industry which can boast some serious achievements especially when it comes to small-size and short-life engines, the bureau that has managed to establish a formidable relationship with Russia’s leading aviation industry institutions.”
