February 17, 2015, Rybinsk. - NPO Saturn hosted a visit of the representatives of the Russian Venture Company (RVC). The purpose of the visit was to establish a partnership for solving the tasks posed to the company today using the tools and expertise of RVC.
RVC is considered as one of the experts in shaping the economy of the next generation based on a technological rather than natural resource model. The management of RVC came up with an initiative of partnering with NPO Saturn as with a global market-oriented enterprise which can boast a wide range of competences in gas turbine engine manufacturing and building its own supply chain capable of boosting its competiveness on the global market.
RVC general director Igor Agamirzyan noted: “I get to visit many industrial companies in Russia and abroad, and I can assure you that what I’ve seen here today is a new breed of industrial company. Naturally, there still remains a great legacy of the previous socio-political formation. In my opinion, the management of NPO Saturn is on the right track of gradual integration of the company into the worldwide value streams while outsourcing to the maximum the company’s non-core activities.
Today, adopting new industrial technologies is one of the prioritized fields of Russia’s development. If our entire industrial complex doesn’t enter the world market of technological development, mechanical engineering first of all, we will no longer be able to stay competitive on both the world and the local markets. That’s why RVC pays particular attention to the technologically advanced companies in the field of implementing new industrial solutions.
At the moment, an environment of technological pioneers is undergoing formation; these are the companies which will determine the course of development of industrial technologies for Russia’s entire machine building for the decades to come. Therefore it is essential to know what is going on in the industrial companies, understand what problems exist to be able, among others, use our capabilities and resources in an attempt to solve them. First of all, we could help in getting small innovative companies involved for supporting the industrial process.”
In the course of the meeting, the parties expressed intention to sign a partnership agreement between NPO Saturn and RBC for organizing and conducting the GenerationS competition accelerating technological projects. This competition has been administered by RVC since 2013 with the support of Russian corporations, growth institutes and venture market players. During the competition the best projects selected based on the results of several iterations of expert evaluation see intensive development and broad investment opportunities. In 2015 the GenerationS is being conducted in close collaboration with the Russian companies interested in finding prospective innovation technologies through the GenerationS regional network of partners bringing together start-up schools, business incubators, universities and other participants of the innovation ecosystem dealing with start-up’s.
An agreement between NPO Saturn and RVC is planned to be signed during the II International technological forum “Innovations. Technologies. Production” which will be held in Rybinsk on 23-25 March 2015. Using the possibilities of RVC, it is envisaged to render support to those projects which might be in demand with the companies in the Gas turbine machinery and power engineering cluster located in the Yaroslavl region. Therefore, the said agreement is intended to promote the quality of the innovation environment and become the first step in the creation of a new innovation environment around NPO Saturn.
According to Dmitry Ivanov, NPO Saturn innovation development director, “Today, we pass on to a new stage in the development of the Gas turbine machinery and power engineering innovation territorial cluster and our company. Embarking on a partnership journey with RVC, NPO Saturn wishes to find high-tech co-manufactures for its products and connect a virtually unlimited network of innovations to the creation of its products. We hope that our collaboration will prove to be successful.”
