March 13, 2015, Rybinsk. - In the period from 1 November 2014 to 13 February 2015 NPO Saturn (a company in UEC belonging to the Rostec State Corporation) conducted tests of the hardware and software components of the Huawei-supplied data communication equipment taking into account the requirements of the NPO Saturn corporate computer network.
The purpose of the tests was to evaluate the feasibility of using active network equipment of alternative suppliers in order to decrease the infrastructure development and maintenance costs while also in the context of finding a substitution for goods previously imported by occidental manufacturers.
Considering the fact that at present NPO Saturn is using active network equipment supplied by Cisco Systems, the main objective of the testing was to check compatibility of the Huawei equipment with the network infrastructure already in place and subsequently perform an upgrade of the active network equipment of the company’s computer network.
For project implementation the joint team consisting of the Huawei, NPO Saturn and SINTO specialists elaborated and approved a program and methodology for conducting tests, a layout of the test bed, the equipment bill of materials, and specific tasks and tests at each step of the testing campaign.
At the first stage, the test bed was activated at NPO Saturn’s test laboratory without the inclusion of the equipment into the network infrastructure existing at NPO Saturn. Tests were conducted with the purpose of verifying the Huawei hardware and software functionality, compatibility of the tested equipment with the technologies used by the company in the already existing network infrastructure built off the Cisco Systems equipment, checking fail-safety and reliability, and verifying the guaranteed capacity and scalability of the new equipment.
During the second stage, the test bed equipment was integrated into the NPO Saturn network infrastructure and the hardware and software functionality was tested in the real-time NPO Saturn data transfer network mode while also testing the controllability and compatibility with the software products used by the company. Besides, an equipment efficiency check was conducted for deciding on the future scalability of the network and achieving full compatibility with the hardware and software products existing in the company.
Based on the test results, it was concluded as follows:
- the Huawei network equipment fully meets the company standards and technologies utilized by the NPO Saturn computer network;
- the Huawei network equipment can be used conjointly with the Cisco Systems network equipment in building a unique infrastructure of the NPO Saturn computer network;
- the Huawei network equipment can be used for upgrading and developing the NPO Saturn computer network on the “core-distribution-access” basis;
- the Huawei network equipment ensures operation of any software used on any platform within the company.
“We are interested in collaborating with Huawei. We are completely satisfied with the responsiveness to our requests and the high level of competence of its personnel. It’s worth a separate mention that this network core testing project was carried out in strict accordance with the test methodology and in the shortest term possible. In the course of testing the Huawei network equipment demonstrated full compliance with the effective company standards and technologies, and that it is fully compatible with the equipment of other vendors,” - noted Kamil Gazizov, general director of RT-INFORM (a subsidiary of the Rostec State Corporation).
“I wish to thank both Huawei and SINTO for the furnished test equipment and all their support rendered during the elaboration of the test methodology and carrying out of the tests. We slightly feared that during the tests our personnel certified to operate the Cisco Systems (CCNA) products would encounter problems with setting up the equipment which is new to them. However, the knowledge and skills of the NPO Saturn specialists turned out to be sufficient to independently configure the Huawei equipment, which makes me quite content. That once again proved the high qualification level of our employees and their capacity to tackle even the toughest of tasks,” - commented Pavel Bekher, NPO Saturn chief information officer.
