Site news 8.05.2015

May 8, 2015, Rybinsk. - NPO Saturn celebrates the veterans of the Great Patriotic War and the workers of the home front in the course of the festivities dedicated to the one of the most significant events in Russia’s history - the Victory Day.
On 6 May 2015 the veterans of the Great Patriotic War and the home front workers - the employees of the engine manufacturer gathered together to celebrate at the Rybinsk sociocultural center. The brothers in arms, who were colleagues back in a day, got together to reminisce on the days of war and the home front, the victories at war and achievements at work, where they would operate the machines, manufacturing the products of strategic importance to their country.

A festive gala dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory over fascism came as an excellent present to all those who had come to the Sociocultural center of Rybinsk. The wartime songs, historical footage of the engine-manufacturing plant’s life during the war years, and the addresses of the company’s senior executives and those of the veterans alternated with the on-stage performances of the Rybinsk artists. The attendees were presented a new book entitled “Saturn 2015. Link between the generations. In memory of the victors”, released specially for the victory’s anniversary.
As part of the festivities, on 7 May 2015 in the course of the visit to Rybinsk of Sergey Yastrebov, the Governor of the Yaroslavl Region and his meeting with Victor Polyakov, NPO Saturn chief executive officer, and the city head Leonid Mozheiko, a solemn laying of the flowers to the monument of the renowned director of the engine-building plant Pavel Derunov situated at the beginning of the Glory Alley took place. Later on, the head of the region accompanied by the NPO Saturn top managers proceeded to the “Glorious Fire” memorial complex, which had reopened after reconstruction to take part in the ceremony of lighting the Eternal Flame and laying the flowers to the memorial.
The “The Glorious Fire” memorial complex is the main place of remembrance in Rybinsk. The reconstruction of the memorial got underway in 2014. Many citizens of Rybinsk had contributed to the fund-raising campaign thus making it a reality. NPO Saturn, as one of the largest industrial enterprises in the Yaroslavl Region, rendered significant financial support to the reconstruction of that monument: practically every Saturn employee donated a portion of his or her salary to the cause. And, the long-awaited moment had finally come. The Eternal Flame relay race spanning 34 Russian cities in the frame of the Victory Day anniversary festivities program had finally arrived to Rybinsk.
“This is a great honor for the city of Rybinsk, - noted the Governor of the Yaroslavl Region Mr. Yastrebov. - But what’s most important, is that this was done by the hands of those who live here, who had decided that the “Glorious Fire” memorial needed restoration. I believe the people of Rybinsk will be coming here: both the veterans and the youth. The flame will be burning eternally on the banks of the Volga River as a reminder to the young generation that the memory needs to be preserved, the heroic feats of our fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers need to be reckoned with, and we have to work earnestly to make our country a strong and powerful nation.”
In order to commemorate the great celebration of the Victory and the inauguration of the restored Glory memorial, the chief executive officer of NPO Saturn presented the governor with a gift copy of the book “Saturn 2015. Link between the generations. In memory of the victors”. Sergey Yastrebov underlined how important the event was to him since not only him personally but also his parents had worked at Saturn having survived all the trials of the company’s evacuation to Ufa, its subsequent return to Rybinsk, and rebuilding of the Rybinsk company.
Later on that day, a meeting between the company’s young leaders, the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, and NPO Saturn CEO Victor Polyakov took place.

“How did you make it though the war? How did you manage to raise and restore your company during those trying years?” These and many other questions interested the young generation of Saturn employees and were addressed to the veterans who’d come to the meeting. The veterans shared the witnessed stories about those distanced but yet very vivid memories of the war years.
In closing Mr. Polyakov, having presented the veterans with gift copies of the book “In memory of the victors.” and congratulated the invited guests on Russia’s most important holiday, shared some personal insight into the 9th of May celebration:
“The Victory Day has always been celebrated by the Russians. However, in 1965 the 9th of May was declared a public holiday and a day off work. And that’s the way it should be. This is the most important holiday in our country. I bow down to the people who have withstood the war and let us live. They worked so hard that our nation was able to stay strong and invincible even through the hardships of the war. This is equally true about those who were at the frontline, and those who were working here, in the rear. Thank you for having given the life to us, our children, and our grandchildren. We bow down to you!».
NPO Saturn CEO wished the young generation of Saturn to carry throughout life the same courage and valor with which the Russian people were forging the great Victory.
The festivities at NPO Saturn dedicated to the Victory Day included among others the organization of meetings of the Saturn-sponsored schools with the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, participation in the improvement of the memorable places in Rybinsk and its surroundings, conducting a children’s creativity contest entitled “The parade of war machines”, and providing the veterans with individual, assistance required by them.
Each Saturn employee received a striped St. George ribbon - the symbol of remembrance and fascination by the victories of our fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers.
