March 26, 2015, Rybinsk - In the course of the second international technological forum held in Rybinsk during the section “Innovative technological solutions in the production of rough parts” the participants reviewed the prospective technological solutions applied in casting and thermal processes in the production of jet engine parts as well as the non-destructive testing, metallography, testing and other developments in the field of blank production.
25 dedicated presentations were made during the section. The discussion was attended by the representatives of NPO Saturn, UEC-Gas Turbines, the P.A. Solovev RSATU, MIS&S and the Tomsk Polytechnic University, managers and senior executives from The Modern Machine-building Company, VACUUMTECH, United Service Company, Composite as well as the world leaders in the development of technological solutions such as Avignon Ceramic SAS (France), VA TECHNOLOGY (England), LINN HIGH THERM, ALD Vacuum Technologies GmbH and ScanMaster (Israel).
The participants discussed the advantages and shortcomings of ceramic cores based on fused aluminum oxide and fused quartz. The expert community truly appreciated the presentation “The use of 3D-prototyping using PLA-plastic in the production of blanks from an aluminum alloy”. Questions with regard to induction heating were also discussed. The delegates from the MIS&S shared about their experience of producing titanium thin-walled complex cast part not using any moulds. An expert representing an English company shared about the world innovations related to the investment casting equipment. Particular attention was paid to the technology of applying protective coatings onto turbine blades and other jet engine hot section parts through the prospective non-destructive testing including ultrasound and radiographic tests. The attendees spoke about the equipment for heat treatment and the ways of increasing strength characteristics of ferrite steels.
According to the section participants, the subjects of common interest were discussed throughout the entire forum.
The section moderator Artur Berestevich, NPO Saturn chief metallurgist, summarized the section results as follows: “The idea of the section was to come up with an absolutely new industrial concept of technological growth in the field of blank production, expand the interaction with the companies and to discuss how to create a higher quality product in a shorter lead time. Over 70% of innovative technological solutions in the modern aviation industry are related to the production of rough parts. The developments of Russian institutes can rival those of foreign companies with a single limitation being the need of getting to serial production in the shortest term possible. Such international format discussion venues help realize that we prioritize the right things dealing with complex issues. Today, we are faced with quite challenging tasks in this domain: implementation of innovative technologies allowing to obtain jet engine parts with increased performance and a task of bringing down labor intensiveness and cutting costs, in other words, we are trying to understand how to render production more economically appealing. We’ve been able to review many topical matters and came up with solutions of the existing problems. All the parties are satisfied with the positive results brought about by this meeting. The collaboration between the section participants will most definitively continue.”
