NPO Saturn celebrates its employees on the occasion of the companys 99th birthday

October 23, 2015, Rybinsk. - Reinforcement of the defense, economic and energy security of the Russian state through developing the scientific-technological potential, devising innovative technologies and delivering competitive turbomachinery has always been at the forefront of NPO Saturns activity, celebrating its 99th this year. The pool of its customers in the transport, defense and power generation sectors spans companies and organizations from around 30 countries across the world.
A wide range of gas turbine technologies for aviation, power generation and marine application; full product life cycle; production facilities and design offices located in Rybinsk, Moscow, Lytkarino, Saint-Petersburg, Omsk and Perm; 12 thousand employees whose passion is the future of Russia’s aviation - all that is what NPO Saturn represents today.
Following the longstanding tradition, the company’s birthday is celebrated by the NPO Saturn team at the Rybinsk cultural convention center Aviator. The gala nights on 22 and 23 October 2015 comprised celebrating and presenting with awards of the company’s best employees.

On this occasion, 100 of NPO Saturn employees received the prestigious NPO Saturn certificate of excellence, 50 people were entered in the company’s Hall of Fame. The effort of 11 Saturn employees was distinguished with the certificate of excellence endorsed by United Engine Corporation (UEC), 10 people received certificates of excellence endorsed by the governor of the Yaroslavl Region while another 20 were presented with the certificates of excellence endorsed by the mayor of Rybinsk. The governmental insignia with bestowing the title “Excellent aircraft engine builder”, certificates of excellence and expressed gratitude of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation went to another 27 company employees.

Over 700 NPO Saturn employees and their family members visited the company’s workshops and museum in the frame of the “Open doors day”. A hundred of Rybinsk school kids were given a chance to get familiar with the company’s history and its present in the frame of the All-Russian initiative dubbed “A week with no turnstiles” of the “Work in Russia!” project.  The participants of the “Looking into the future” family craftsmanship contest presented various handicrafts dedicated to NPO Saturn’s birthday. And, of course, not a single Company Day goes without paying homage to NPO Saturn’s veterans, those who have dedicated the major part of their lives to the company’s prosperity.

An outstanding gift for the company’s 99th birthday was the release of a new NPO Saturn corporate edition aptly titled “Going ahead of his time” dedicated to the 100th birthday of the prominent designer of aircraft engines Pyotr Alekseyevich Kolesov, who in the course of 24 years had stood at the helm of the Rybinsk aircraft engine design bureau. The book presentation took place on 22 October on the premises of the P.A. Solovyev Rybinsk State Aviation Technical University with the attendance of the apprentices, family and friends of Mr. Kolesov as well as students, young design engineers and representatives of the country’s academia.

“The history of NPO Saturn is a series of events, achievements and lives. It is manifested in dozens of new designs and thousands of in-service engines. It is a link between several generations of engine builders. It is the new challenges of the new era,” enthuses Victor Polyakov, NPO Saturn chief executive officer. - Today, in the uneasy geopolitical conditions the company is ramping up its involvement in state orders strategic to the defense capability and import substitution, its export deliveries as well as deliveries in civil sectors of the economy. Behind this important statement is the everyday hard labor of the real people. I, therefore, wish to express my gratitude to the entire team and to each individual employee of this enterprise of many thousands people for the earnest, selfless and quality work which undoubtedly pays off. I’m proud that all of us contribute to this important cause - the creation of gas turbine engines for aviation, power generation and marine application.

“Without a seamless, honest and responsible effort of a team of professionals, I don’t think we would have been able to reach such significant results, - believes Yuriy Shmotin, NPO Saturn general designer. - The results achieved in the small-sized gas turbine engine programs and the Russian Navy programs in terms of engineering an import substitution base of the Russian maritime turbine engineering. The results achieved in one of our top-priority projects - the SaM146 engine which has by now been in revenue service for almost five years. In working with a foreign customer on the D-30KP2 engine without which it is impossible to imagine the functioning of NPO Saturn. The first stages of creating a modernized high-power turbine GTE-110M featuring enhanced performance and extended product life. The implementation of a number of innovative projects, in particular, those promoting additive manufacturing. Today, we look with confidence into the year 2016 - the year of Saturn 100th anniversary, and towards new prospects.”

The Company Day 2015 and the Rybinsk Homecoming 2015 set the countdown for the preparation of the centennial anniversary that the company will be celebrating in 2016; it will be a common celebration for the company and the city of Rybinsk alike.
“99 years is a beautiful number, but 100 is even greater. NPO Saturn is approaching its anniversary in good industrial shape, - noted Sergey Yastrebov, the governor of the Yaroslavl Region. - Today, NPO Saturn is one of the largest machine-building companies in Russia. The NPO Saturn developments are in demand with the aviation, ship-building and the country’s power grids. These engines have withstood the test of the market economy and they comply with any applicable international standard. Besides, NPO Saturn is one of Russia’s key players in the country’s import substitution program. Saturn is steadily increasing its scientific and human potential, continues its modernization and conquers new technologies. This is the guarantee that any new tasks given to the Rybinsk team, will be successfully solved!”

The NPO Saturn Research and Production Association (OJSC) is an engine-manufacturing company specialized in the design and development, production, and after-market support of gas turbine engines for military and commercial aviation, naval ships, and power-generating plants and gas-pumping units. The association is part of the Union of Russian Mechanical Engineers, an All-Russian public organization.

NPO Saturn is part of United Engine Corporation (JSC) and acts as the leader of the Commercial Engines Division, a business unit of UEC founded on 09.10.2012 as a result of integration of the following companies: NPO Saturn (OJSC), Aviadvigatel (OJSC), PMZ (OJSC), Metallist-PM (CJSC), Energetik-PM (OJSC), Motoservis-PM (CJSC), and Zheleznodorozhnik-PM (CJSC).
