February 16, 2016, Rybinsk. - On 15 February 2016, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of France in the Russian Federation Jean-Maurice Ripert stopped by NPO Saturn (a company in UEC of the Rostec State Corporation) during his visit to the Yaroslavl Region.
The representatives of the French embassy in the RF, the Yaroslavl regional administration, the Safran Group companies, Snecma and PowerJet visited the NPO Saturn exhibition hall (the company’s museum) showcasing all of NPO Saturn’s developments totaling a century-long history, which started from the Russian Renault plant. The important guests met with the company’s management and visited the production shops of NPO Saturn and VolgAero, a joint venture between Saturn and Snecma. The main item on the meeting agenda was the production program of the SaM146 engines powering the Superjet 100 regional aircraft serving as a good testimony of successful Russian-French collaboration in the high-technology sector.
“It is an honor for me to be able to see for myself this magnificent legacy of our French-Russian cooperation - the fantastic SaM146 engine. To me, the partnership between NPO Saturn and Safran Group is an excellent example testifying that we have been successfully collaborating for decades in the domain of high technology. This shows and proves that we do believe in the future of high technologies in Russia. No matter what obstacles we may come across, we will continue working together. I rest assured that the politicians will show themselves in the same constructive way as our industrialists have done so far,” - underscored Jean-Maurice Ripert, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of France in the Russian Federation.
“I’d like to thank the Ambassador for finding time to stop in at NPO Saturn during his visit to the Yaroslavl Region. Here, indeed, we have a very successful Russian-French enterprise which delivers a real product. We are glad that in the frame of the SаM146 project new technologies have been conceived, new jobs have been created and a new formation of people who know how to work to the international standards has emerged. And, the very tangible result of our collaboration can be seen in this assembly shop where we have just completed assembly of the 200th serial SaM146 engine,” - commented Viktor Polyakov, NPO Saturn managing director.
It’s worth noting that to date, NPO Saturn is the only Russian commercial aircraft engine manufacturer holding the entire portfolio of internationally certified competences ranging from engine serial production to maintenance and repair operations.
To keep up with the growing demand for the SaM146 engine, new production facilities have been built along with the introduction of the cutting-edge technologies including a unique test complex integrating 3 indoor test cells and 1 outdoor test bench which has no analogs in Europe.
The Russian-French partnership focused on the SaM146 engine program is up and running. There is a good understanding of the need and readiness to increase the volume of engine production over the next two years. These plans are supported by the increased volume of firm orders for the engine. The Superjet is starting to claim its market share. The SSJ100 family already incorporates three aircraft modifications: basic, extended range and business, all powered by the same SaM146 propulsion system delivering from 7 to 8 tons of thrust.
As of January 2016, NPO Saturn has delivered 197 serial SaM146 engines. At the moment, the Rybinsk-based final assembly shop has released for testing the 200th serial SaM146 engine.
The SaM146 has demonstrated excellent in-service behavior having logged over 330 thousand flight hours by the entire engine fleet as of the end of January 2016. The powerplant dispatch ratio equals 99,89 %.
The strategic accent on deepening and expanding a mutually profitable relationship with Snecma advocated by NPO Saturn has always been given the same importance.
Owing to the Russian-French SaM146 engine program, the city of Rybinsk has been added to the list of the twelve Russian cities where Alliance Française, a cultural and linguistic non-profit organization has started its operations. This became a reality due to the continued effort of Safran Group, the French embassy in the RF, the Rybinsk city hall and NPO Saturn. The new public organization has organically integrated itself into the city’s cultural life having acquired a formidable reputation as an organization delivering quality French-teaching programs. Cultural events staged by Alliance Française Rybisnk (French cinema festivals, music days, French cuisine days, photo and art exhibitions) have always attracted the attention of the locals and visitors alike. Being strongly supported by its founders, Alliance Française Rybinsk is set to do a lot more with the goal of popularizing the French culture and the French language.
