April 7, 2016, Rybinsk. - Over the period of April 4 - 6, the III International technological forum entitled Innovations. Technologies. Manufacturing was taking place in Rybinsk. The ITF 2016 was timed to the hundredth anniversary of NPO Saturn. The forums main theme was the development of the advanced industrial technologies which will be in high demand over the next 20 years and must underpin the strategy of Russias National technological initiative.

This year’s forum organizers and partners were NPO Saturn, P.A. Solovyev Rybinsk State Aviation Technical University, Russian Venture Company, the government of the Yaroslavl Region as well as the Rybinsk city district administration.

In all, over 1000 people took part in the three days of the forum session, these were the representatives of small-to-medium business, large private companies, state corporations, research-and-development organizations, development institutes as well as educational institutions from Russia and from abroad. The ITF 2016 was able to get the international representation to a new level welcoming guests from Mexico, Canada, China, India, France, Germany and some other countries.

The results of the ITF 2016 show a profound need in such format of the event, the topicality of the items treated by the research-and-technology community and the fact that Rybinsk is reestablishing itself as a leader in the field of Russian engine-manufacturing advancement.

“The National technological initiative is the number-one project which is being implemented in our country. Without it, there cannot be a true economic breakthrough, - underscored during the forum inauguration the governor of the Yaroslavl Region Sergey Yastrebov. - Today, the best experts in this field have gathered here in Rybinsk. The most advanced approaches to the development of modern production are discussed here, the approaches which will allow to ensure economic growth and competitiveness on the internal and external markets alike.”

Director of the “Young professionals” division of the Agency for strategic initiatives Dmitriy Peskov: “If you look at the agenda, you’ll understand that the Rybinsk forum is the deepest technological event occurring since the existence of the National technological initiative over the last 1,5 years. To date, we haven’t had a specialized forum like this with the same level of immersion even in Moscow. We are where the leaders are, and the leaders are here, you are the leaders.”

Managing director of NPO Saturn Victor Polyakov: “Technological evolution, open innovation systems, new business models is not a fashion statement; it’s a question of the company’s dynamic development. Over the past several years, NPO Saturn has been actively searching for partners among small innovative companies and has invited startups for collaboration. We plan to embark on creating a test ground for technologies which will emerge as the foundation for creating the production of the future. What this future will be like, who and how will shape it and, also, what should be the starting point for collaboration, these items have constituted the working agenda of the International technological forum 2016.”

The work of the forum was organized around 8 specific sections incorporating both traditional and new, interdisciplinary topics such as: “Digital design and modeling. Bionic design”, “Additive manufacturing”, “Novel materials”, “Industrial Internet. Big data”, “Reliability of gas turbine engines”, “Mechatronics and robotics”, “Labor resources planning” and “Education for a technological leader”. The ITF 2016 included 5 project sessions: “Program management in high-tech business”, “Knowledge management system at an industrial enterprise”, “FAST-technologies”, “An electric gas turbine engine for an electric aircraft” and “Industrial Internet of Things as the main feature of the fourth industrial revolution”. A mini congress hosted by CIAM  under the title “Mathematical design and modeling in the aerospace” also took place during the forum. A new, popular format of reaching out to the audience including not only the forum registered participants but also anyone interested was a series of open lectures. In particular, the open lectures included a lecture “Future skills. The logic behind the National technological initiative” narrated by Dmitriy Peskov, a lecture on “Bionic design” was read by Alexey Borovkov, while a lecture on new approaches in the computer-aided design of materials was given by a Skoltech professor, New York State University professor, head of a laboratory at the Moscow Institute for Physics and Technology Artyom Oganov.

During the ITF 2016 closing session, Rostelecom and NPO Saturn signed a strategic partnership agreement in the field of innovative development with the use of Industrial Internet.

According to the opinion shared by the ITF 2016 participants, it is essential to not only discuss modern trends and high technologies within the walls of a lecture hall, it is important to see them put to use in the creation of high-tech products. To that end, a visit of NPO Saturn was organized allowing the participants to get familiar with the company’s state-of-the-art industrial capabilities.

General director of the Center for technology transfer, co-chair of the NTI’s AeroNet taskforce Sergey Zhukov: “It is my first visit to NPO Saturn. I was deeply impressed by the new laboratory complex producing composite products. I believe that based off that we could grow a whole belt of small innovative companies which will generate new technologies for my domain - AeroNet, i.e. unmanned aerial systems. Honestly, I’m simply overwhelmed with how many prospects for future collaboration I have seen here.”

Vice president for prospective projects at the Saint-Petersburg Polytechnic University, co-chair of the NTI’s TechNet taskforce (advanced industrial technologies) Alexey Borovkov: “At  NPO Saturn, we were demonstrated technological chains ranging from conventional technologies utilizing multifunctional machining centers to the most state-of-the-art technologies, such as additive manufacturing. We were really impressed with Saturn’s park of additive machines unrivaled in the Russian Federation. There is no doubt that Saturn is one of the most advanced high-technology companies in the Russian industry. This visit serves as a living proof of that.
Speaking in general about the forum results, I can say that the forum was a success. I think Rybinsk has all the chances to become a technological capital of Russia, which I wholeheartedly wish to both Rybinsk and the forum itself.”

Both the forum organizers and the ITF 2016 participants concur on the fact that the creation of an in-depth discussion ground under the aegis of the National technological initiative has allowed to elevate the forum to a brand new level.

According to Dmitriy Ivanov, NPO Saturn director of innovative development, achieving such substantial results has been possible thanks to the well-coordinated teamwork: “We work as one team within the National technological initiative’s TechNet taskforce. We are open for partnership and are grateful to our colleagues from Russian Venture Company, the Agency for strategic initiatives, Skolkovo and Rostelecom for having been able to get people and projects involved that we didn’t know of before. Creating a network of new connections between the science, the entrepreneurs and high-tech industrial companies as well as interaction with the representatives of the international technological leading companies and outstanding scientists paves a solid foundation for innovative development which, in fact, is the real result of the forum’s operation.
Besides, we do not go by any stereotypes; we are open to anything new. Saturn became an active participant of the National technological initiative and was the initiator of the ITF 2016 under the NTI aegis. That gave us much more leverage to bring this event to a whole new level.”
