May 11, 2016, Rybinsk. - We can say that 2016 is indeed an extraordinary year for NPO Saturn. In the year of the company’s centennial anniversary, its employees got a unique chance to communicate face to face with some legends of modern Russia. This year Saturn already hosted the renowned poet Yuriy Kublanovskiy and the famous athlete Alexander Karelin. And yet again, a new event just came along: on May 10, 2016 NPO Saturn was visited by the first ever woman astronaut, hero of the Soviet Union, deputy of the State Duma’s sixth convention, deputy chair of the Duma foreign policy committee, member of United Russia’s High council - Valentina Tereshkova. The famous Yaroslavna spoke to NPO Saturn employees about conquering space and state policy, about the development of the Yaroslavl Region and significance of the companies operating in the defense-industrial sector, about hobbies and essential values.
NPO Saturn, a company playing an important role in the region is constantly given a high-level priority in fulfilling tasks vital to the state. For Valentina Tereshkova NPO Saturn needs no introduction: she has been to its production facilities before, got familiar with the cutting-edge technologies, met with the company’s management and young engineers while showing acute interest in how NPO Saturn is progressing and how life in Rybinsk is coming along. In the course of her new visit, Mrs. Tereshkova met with NPO Saturn’s design engineering team. The meeting was taking place on the premises of the laboratory-and-production complex No. 790 which houses a whole array of the state-of-the-art equipment for producing parts from polymer composite materials and which also conducts lab tests of the physical properties of materials. Within this facility, NPO Saturn is working on creating a technological backlog, or as the in-house saying goes: “the future is being built here”.
“It is always a great honor for me to visit this outstanding company which goes by the name of Saturn. Your hands of gold, your bright heads, your brilliant thoughts help make our aviation stronger, - said Mrs. Tereshkova opening the meeting with a team of NPO Saturn employees. – Visiting such companies as this reinforces my conviction that Russia has always been invincible; with such great people and with support of our president, we will be able to overcome any hardships.
I wish to thank you for your work as well as for your remembrance. We are getting farther and farther from the first flights into space. It was tough, but we were young; we were being trained by the great masters and we simply had no right to voice any difficulties. There are few of us left today - the true space trailblazers. But what makes us strong is the love of our country”.
According to Valentina Tereshkova, after her flight into space she made a commitment to serve her country and the land of Yaroslavl to the best of her ability. Today, within the focus of her attention are both the social and economic issues of the region, and the upbringing of the youth as well as the furtherance of Russia’s defense and industrial complex. A technical science doctorate candidate, professor, author of over 50 research papers - for over 30 years Mrs. Tereshkova had worked at the Astronauts training center, that’s why she knows all the problems of Russia’s defense sector firsthand. It is not by coincidence that the Russian president Vladimir Putin seeks her advice when it comes to discussing the prospects of development of the Russian space industry. That answers the question why it is important for the Yaroslavl Region to have a representative in the high legislative body; someone who is ready and capable of defending the region’s interests, respected and recognized both by the country’s leadership and the military-industrial elite - scientists and industry’s professionals.
“By her very life and her attitude, Valentina Tereshova has always demonstrated her dedication to the land of Yaroslavl; the native land for our “Seagull” is her most treasured possession, her highest value, - said the mayor of Rybinsk Denis Dobryakov who was also present at the meeting. - Having support from such a person, we can achieve even more in promoting the interests of our town and our region as a whole.”
After thanking the meeting attendees for the cordial reception, Mrs. Tereshkova accepted the invitation to revisit NPO Saturn during the festive days of celebrating the company’s 100th birthday and left a note in its Distinguished Guests Book: “It was a great pleasure to visit your company and speak to its employees. It was delightful to see that NPO Saturn is fully dedicated to reinforcing the might and security of our nation. I wish to every employee of this legendary company a lot of success, happiness and good luck!”
