The SaM146 Engine has performed 100 000 cycles on Mexican Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft

The SaM146 Russian-French propulsion system, with the engine, its main component, produced by Rybinsk NPO Saturn PJSC (part of United Engine Corporation, Rostec State Corporation company), has performed 100 000 cycles installed on Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) passenger aircraft belonging to Mexican Interjet airline.
Currently the Interjet fleet is composed of 21 SSJ100 aircraft, each of them having two SaM146 propulsion systems. Altogether the airline has ordered 30 Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft. Interjet started their commercial service in September 2013. Regarding the number of cycles performed by the SaM146, today Interjet is the leader among the SSJ100 operators.

“The SSJ100 operating efficiency at Interjet is impressive: the aircraft departs from Mexico City at an interval less than an hour on ground that reminds of a smoothly running production conveyor . The Mexican partners are very much satisfied with the SaM146 propulsion system, its reliability, optimized after-sale service system, rapidness of PowerJet response to the operator’s requests. Two field PowerJet representatives and one representative of Aircelle, the company that supplies the nacelle, are constantly present at Interjet, says Mikhail Berdennikov, NPO Saturn SaM146 Program Director. – The fact that the Mexican airline has ordered ten more aircraft in addition to the first twenty aircraft is the best proof of commercial and technical appeal of the product”.

According to Jean-François Gallardo, SaM146 Program Director at Safran Aircraft Engines (SAFRAN Group subdivision), the engine has demonstrated “unsurpassed reliability” in adverse climatic service conditions.

In the course of the visit to Mexico that took place in May, the representatives of PowerJet, the Russian-French company (50/50 joint venture of Snecma, a SAFRAN Group company, and NPO Saturn) effecting the SaM146 delivery and rendering all after-sale service, together with InterJet, signed an addendum to the contract concerning the SaM146 hourly maintenance. Now the scope of the contract shall extend to 30 aircraft instead of 20 and involve delivery of five spare engines (instead of three engines stipulated before).
“Interjet is the SSJ100/SaM146 Program’s image on the Western market. The successful operation of Superjet with Russian-French engines in Mexico was an important factor that ensured our new breakthrough – presently to the European market with CityJet company”, mentioned Mikhail Berdennikov.

The SaM146 is an integrated propulsion system incorporating the engine, nacelle and thrust reverser that is intended for the new generation of Sukhoi Superjet 100 regional and short range aircraft.
The SaM146 two-shaft bypass turbojet engine, jointly developed by NPO Saturn and Snecma, is produced according to a design scheme
with a single-stage fan, three-stage low pressure compressor, six-stage high pressure compressor, annular combustion chamber, single-stage high pressure turbine and three-stage low pressure turbine. The engine is equipped with full authority digital engine control (FADEC). The SaM146 has a wide-range thrust control.

The SaM146 is a compact, reliable and eco-friendly engine, based on the combination of Western and Russian engine manufacturing expertise and new technologies.
It is the first gas-turbine engine produced in Russia that has got EASA international type certificate. By now, four  SaM146 modifications: 1S17 and 1S18 to power the SSJ100-95-B and SSJ100-95-LR aircraft correspondingly, as well as 1S17С and 1S18С to power corporate, government and VIP versions of the SSJ100 have been produced and certified in accordance with Russian and European standards. Commercial service of the SSJ100 aircraft with the SaM146 engines started in April 2011.
The engine maximum thrust at take-off (NTO) is 7 311 kgf, at automatic power reserve (APR) it is 7 900 kgf. The specific fuel consumption at cruise is 0.629 kg/ kgf.h. The bypass ratio is 4.43. The dry weight (with the nacelle) is 2150 kg.
