July 22, 2016, Moscow. On July 21 in Moscow the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) expert board meeting was held. President of the Russian Federation V. Putin, who is at the head of the ASI supervisory committee, took part in the meeting. In the presence of the Russian leader members of the ASI expert board celebrating its fifth anniversary considered five projects seeking the support of the Agency. The Factory of the Future project presented by its leader A.Borovkov Prorector for advanced projects of SPbSPU has been approved and it will be supported by ASI.
The Agency for Strategic Initiatives was created in 2011 on the initiative by V. Putin. Support of the advanced socio-meaningful projects is among the ASI objectives.

Taking the floor at the opening of the event the President highly appreciated the ASI activity and its contribution in organization of interaction between the government entities, civil society and business. “People, education, business climate – these are the most important elements of the global competitive advantages of Russia. It is essential that while working in these directions you can see not only the near-term prospect, but you look ahead beyond the horizon, V. Putin addressed the meeting. “Within the scope of the National technological initiative you have begun to realize the ambitious ideas, form conditions for the top position of Russia on the markets of the future”.

Formation of markets of the future is not possible without the main component of digital economy of the future, i.e. ‘factories of the future’. Before the beginning of the meeting at the exhibition of the Strategic Initiatives Forum the leader of the Factories of the Future project, co-head of the TechNet (Advanced Manufacturing Technologies) workgroup of the National Technological Initiative (NTI) A. Borovkov presented this project to the President.

The Factory of the Future project emerged within the scope of the National Technological Initiative TechNet. The participants of the project are: Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies of Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University (Saint Petersburg), NPO Saturn (a part of United Engine Corporation (UEC) of Rostec State Corporation), the group of companies CompMechLab® , Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology and others. The key objective of the project is forming a set of world-class competences based on integration of advanced manufacturing technologies and business models for ‘factories of the future’. They are platforms for smart digital production, including digital design and modeling of the new level, new product sample testing in the virtual media, which reproduces real manufacturing and operating conditions enabling significant reduction of the time for development and manufacture and the product cost as well. On the basis of digital and ‘smart’ factories a virtual factory is formed, which ensures transition to digital logistics in the factories of the future supply chain and to comfortable jurisdiction zone.
“Now the industry of Russia is facing a new challenge – Time to Market – the minimum time it takes to introduce the globally competitive product of a new generation to the market. Reduction of this time at the ‘factories of the future’ will ensure principally new approaches to digital design based on the total mathematical modeling and optimization technologies”, explained Prorector for advanced projects of SPbSPU A. Borovkov.

A vivid prototype of the ‘smart’ factory is implementation of the Cortege project. A. Borovkov pointed out: “During two years for the first time in Russia a uniform modular platform was developed, on the basis of which the premium-class car was designed, developed and tested that received the highest mark at the first attempt at the independent test facility in Berlin”.
It is essential that such a unique result was provided by the developed digital factory, which also works in the high technology industries such as: engine-building, helicopter industry, ship-building, aerospace industry, and which is most important, it works to the benefit of future markets, NTI markets.

Aleksey Borovkov reported to the President the purpose of addressing ASI – this is “formation of the list of industrial challenges in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade in order to create the branch and market ‘factories of the future’ and above all solution of these challenges”.

It is noteworthy that the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation D. Manturov has also encouraged the project: “This is only one of the examples of interaction with our department… That is why we hope that the practices that have already been implemented will form the basis of the National Technological Initiative, the initiative developed by the government. We will certainly implement these best practices”.

According to the results of secret voting by the extended meeting members of the Expert board chaired by V. Putin, ASI will support the project ‘Factories of the Future’ as regards organization of networking cooperation with the industrial partners as well as administrative support in development of infrastructure for ‘factories of the future’.
