Supercomputer Center – an integrated cluster of high-efficiency computational resources AL-100 and SPAK is created in PJSC NPO Saturn (it is a part of United Engine Corporation (JSC) of Rostec State Corporation). In honor of the Company’s anniversary it is named Saturn-100.
NPO Saturn is specialized in development, manufacturing and after sales support of gas turbine engines for military and civil aviation, energy generating and gas transporting equipment, propulsion systems for marine application. NPO Saturn is a manufacturer of SaM146 engines (jointly with Safran Aircraft Engines) for civil A/C Sukhoi Superjet 100, D-30KP engines for transport aircraft, AL-55 for training and operational air force, small-scale gas turbine engines, etc.
For the development of innovation program on introduction and use of supercomputer calculations in industry, NPO Saturn commissioned this year a new dedicated software hardware complex (SPAK) having 114 TFLOPS capacity, which is developed by one of Russian companies. Summary volume of SPAK RAM is 14,5 TB, summary amount of computing field processors – 204, summery amount of cores – 2808.
In-service cluster AL-100 (in 2008 this supercomputer was recognized as the most high-efficient in Russian and CIS industry) is used for implementation of the “hardest” calculations: burning in combustion chambers, conjugate heat exchange of turbine blades, acoustics calculations, and optimized calculations of some structural components. For generation of very large scale computational grids and preparation of models, which are impossible to be assembled in PCs, the cluster SMP-units are applied, i.e. powerful servers with a big volume of RAM.
By means of SPAK, 3D-calculations of the higher level will become possible, these calculations significantly exceed the tasks being solved on AL-100 cluster in terms of dimensions: calculations with vortex permitting turbulence models, transient calculation of fan acoustic characteristics, burning in combustion chamber with detailed models of chemical kinetics, conjugate problems tasks of gas dynamics in transient statement, tasks of multi-criteria and probabilistic optimization.

NPO Saturn is the leader of the Commercial Engines division, a business unit of UEC.
The Company follows an active innovation policy – additive technologies, 3D modeling are used, parts made of polymer composite materials into the engines design is implemented, etc.
