SaM146 engines operating time in commercial operation is above 450 thousands flight hours

As of the 6th of October, 2016, Russian-French SaM146 engine produced by PJSC NPO Saturn (a member of United Engine Corporation of Rostec State Corporation) jointly with French Company Safran Aircraft Engines has operated 469 413 flight hours (315 741 cycles) installed on civil AC Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100).
    SaM146 – integrated powerplant system, consisting of the engine and nacelle with reverser. SaM146 deliveries and all after sales services are performed by PowerJet (a joint venture based on the principles of equal partnership between Safran Aircraft Engines and PJSC NPO Saturn).

    Maximum operating hours are registered on the engines operating in severe environmental conditions. Engine 146140, having maximum operating hours (7 554 flight hours) is operated by Yakutia Airlines in conditions of extremely low temperatures. Maximum operating cycles (5 517 cycles) are registered on engine 146137, operated by Interjet (Mexico) in conditions of highland and high temperatures.

    «SaM146 engine on time flight reliability is 99,92 %, - says Georgy Konyukhov, Chief Designer of SaM146 Project, PJSC NPO Saturn. – This index is achieved (including but not limited) by a special design of fan blades, front cone and all flowpath, which ensures high level of protection and sustainability to foreign objects ingestion. In general, operational parameters of  SaM146 are at the level exceeding average index for this engines rating».

SaM146 completely meets current ecological requirements. Optimized bypass ratio and reduced fan rotation speed enabled considerable decrease of noise from operating engine and ensured a margin in relation to the norms of ICAO Chapter IV. Combustion chamber is designed so that it guarantees a low level of polluting emissions, ensuring a margin in relation to CAEP6 norms and compliance with CAEP8 norms.

    Two-shaft bypass turbojet SaM146 developed jointly by PJSC NPO Saturn and Snecma (today - Safran Aircraft Engines) is produced on the basis of structural scheme with single-stage fun, three-stage low pressure compressor, six-stage high pressure compressor, annular combustion chamber, single-stage high pressure turbine and three-stage low pressure turbine. Engine control system is digital, with full responsibility (of FADEC type). SaM146 has a wide range of thrust control and it ensures reduced fuel flow of SSJ100 in comparison with the competitors being now in operation (about 10%) due to high-performance thermo-dynamic cycle and improved parametrical characteristics of components. 

SaM146, created on the basis of combination of experience and innovative technologies of Russian and western engines building industry, is the first gas turbine engine produced in Russia, which was granted with EASA Type Certificate. As of today four SaM146 modifications are created and certified in accordance with Russian and European norms: 1S17 and 1S18 for powering of SSJ100-95B and SSJ100-95LR aircraft correspondingly, as well as 1S17С and 1S18С for powering of corporate, governmental-owned and VIP-versions of SSJ100. Commercial operation of SSJ100 with SaM146 engines started in April 2011.

Russian PJSC NPO Saturn is in charge of development and production of fan and low pressure compressor, low pressure turbine, engine assembly and tests, Safran Aircraft Engines  – high pressure compressor, combustion chamber, high pressure turbine, accessories gearbox, automatic control system and integration of powerplant system.
Maximum engine thrust at Normal Take-Off (NTO) — 7 311 kgf, at APR — 7 900 kgf. Specific fuel consumption at cruise — 0.629 kg/kgf.h. Bypass ratio — 4.43. Dry weight (with nacelle) — 2150 kg.

           PJSC NPO Saturn is an engines building company, it is specialized in development, manufacturing and after sales support of gas turbine engines for military and civil aviation, energy generating and gas transporting equipment, propulsion systems for marine application. NPO Saturn is within the structure of United Engine Corporation (JSC), the leader of the Commercial Engines division, a business unit of UEC.  It is situated in Rybinsk (Yaroslavl region).
