Operating time of Russian-French SaM146 engine fleet exceeded 600 thousand hours

Summary operating time of Russian-French SaM146 power plant systems installed on commercial aircraft Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) is more than 620 thousand flight hours. The engine is being successfully operated not only by a range of Russian airlines but also in foreign countries. The biggest foreign operators are Mexican InterJet and Irish CityJet airlines.
SaM146 — integrated power plant system comprising of engine and nacelle with reverser. SaM146 deliveries and all after-sales services are provided by PowerJet (joint venture based upon the principles of equal representation of Safran Aircraft Engines and UEC – Saturn PJSC). Rybinsk enterprise UEC – Saturn is in charge of development and manufacturing of fan and low pressure compressor, low pressure turbine, SaM146 engine assembly and tests, and Safran Aircraft Engines is responsible for high pressure compressor, combustion chamber, high pressure turbine, accessories gearbox, automatic control system and integration of the power plant system.
As of today more than 250 SaM146 engines are delivered, about 200 engines are in operation. In 2016 48 engines were produced and sold. Production plan for 2017 assumes delivery of 72 power plant systems to Sukhoi Sivil Aircraft JSC (SCAC, a part of UAC).
Maximum operating time in hours is registered on one of the engines owned by Yakutia airlines – it is more than 7 800 flight hours. Maximum operating time in cycles – on the engine being operated in Interjet, — more than 6 400 flight cycles.
On time departure reliability factor is 99,9%. Such a result is achieved among other things also by a special design of fan blades, front cone and all the flowpath, which ensures a high level of protection and foreign objects ingestion resistance. In general, SaM146 performance data are at the level exceeding statistically average value for this range of engines.
“Yakutia airlines is operating the engines in the coldest latitudes in the world: temperature varies within 100 degrees (from — 60 degrees in winter up to +40 degrees in summer), — says Veniamin Borisov, pilot of Yakutia airlines. — It means that we are able to land and take off in any climatic and natural conditions. During 3 years of operation of Sukhoi Superjet 100 powered by SaM146 power plant systems, the engines always showed their best behavior”.
SaM146 engine is certified as per EASA and IAC AR norms and starting from 2011 it is in commercial operation on AC SSJ100. Today it is making fly aircraft of 15 operators both in Russia (Aeroflot, Yakutia, Yamal, IrAero, Gazprom Avia and other airlines) and in other countries — in particular, in Mexico, Ireland, Thailandе (Royal air forces). SaM146 proved its high reliability in the course of operation in Mexico in high-altitude conditions and at low temperatures in Yakutia.

Two SaM146 spare parts distribution centers are established in order to create a customer support system meeting world-wide requirements — in Lytkarino located near Moscow and in Villaroche (France). Such localization of warehouses gives opportunity to supply spare parts during a day practically to any part of the world. Two training centers are also functioning here for training of the airlines technical staff. 24-hour customers support center and web-portal are created.
Two-shaft  by-pass turbojet engine SaM146 is done as per structural scheme with one-stage fan, three-stage low pressure compressor, six-stage high pressure compressor,  annular combustion chamber, one-stage high pressure turbine and three-stage low pressure turbine. Engine control system is digital with full responsibility (FADEC). SaM146 has a wide range of thrust regulation. SaM146 power plant system, created on the basis of combination of experience and new technologies of Russian and western engine manufacturing industry, completely meets up-to-date ecological requirements. Optimized by-pass ratio and reduced fan rotation speed gave the opportunity to decrease significantly the noise from running engine and to ensure margin in relation to the norms of ICAO Chapter IV. Combustion chamber is designed in such a way that it guarantees a low level of polluting emissions and compliance with CAEP8 norms.
As of today four modifications of SaM146 engine are created and certified in accordance with Russian and European norms: 1S17 and 1S18 for powering of A/C SSJ100-95B, SSJ100-95LR and SSJ100 B100 respectfully, and also 1S17С and 1S18С for powering of different VIP-versions of SSJ100 (corporate and governmental).
SaM146 is presented at UEC’s stand in the frames of exhibition Paris Air Show 2017.
