United Engine Corporation (a Rostec State Corporation company) has started tests of the M90FR marine gas turbine engine (GTE). The production of this engine is being set up within the import substitution program in order to meet the needs of the Russian Navy.
UEC is currently working on the establishment of a national marine gas turbine production base at UEC-Saturn PJSC (Rybinsk). In April 2017 in the presence of Vladimir Putin, Russian President, a marine assembly and testing facility was put into pilot operation. This facility is designed for complex tests of marine gas turbine engines, gas turbine and diesel-gas turbine units in different configurations. The Russian leader started tests of the gas turbine unit М35R-1 with the М70FRU-2 engine in a test bench with a capacity of 15 MW.
M90FR engines to be fabricated within the framework of development activities have been manufactured. Engine #1 passed the first step of special factory tests. Engine #2 intended for qualification tests is assembled and mounted in a 40 MW test bench, its pre-delivery tests have been launched.
“Out of UEC-Saturn’s marine gas turbine engine line, the M90FR engine is currently the most sought-after in the Russian Navy, — points out Viktor Polyakov, Deputy General Director – Managing Director of UEC-Saturn PJSC. — The first units with M90FR engines will be delivered for the needs of Navy next year”.
The development activity “M90FR” is one of the three marine gas turbine engine development activities implemented by UEC-Saturn PJSC now. It implies the mastering of serial production of the М90FR GTE with a capacity of 27 500 h.p. in order to power the diesel-gas turbine unit М55R. The development work is being done under the state contract between the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and UEC-Saturn PJSC, dated 2014.
Until now UEC-Saturn PJSC has completed the industrialization phase and has fabricated engines to be tested within the framework of launching the product into manufacture. In parallel with the activities related to launching the product into manufacture, the fabrication of production gas turbine engines M90FR is in progress.
The development work “M90FR” is in accordance with the approved schedules. Following this work a qualification test report will be approved to demonstrate UEC-Saturn’s PJSC readiness for М90FR serial production.
The marine engine М90FR is presented in the UEC exhibition booth at the International Naval Show in Saint Petersburg which is to take place from June 28th through July 2nd.UEC-Saturn (PJSC) is an engine-manufacturing company specialized in the design and development, production and after-market support of gas turbine engines for military and commercial aviation, power generation and gas compression as well as for ships and vessels.
