United Engine Corporation (a Rostec State Corporation company) will present their competencies acquired within the framework of the import substitution program and related to the development and production of marine gas turbine engines and units during International Naval Show - 2017 in Saint Petersburg.
Currently UEC is working on the establishment of a national marine gas turbine production base at UEC-Saturn PJSC (Rybinsk). In April 2017 in the presence of Vladimir Putin, Russian President, a marine assembly and testing facility was put into pilot operation. This facility is designed for complex tests of marine gas turbine engines, gas turbine and diesel-gas turbine units in different configurations. The Russian leader started tests of the gas turbine unit М35R-1 with the М70FRU-2 engine in a test bench with a capacity of 15 MW.
UEC’s exposition at International Naval Show - 2017 includes the gas turbine engines M70FRU and M9-FR for the Navy, the marine commercial gas turbine generator SGTG-8 and the small-size engine 36МТ (designed for air drones). Within the framework of the exhibition program UEC is to conduct negotiations with the Russian Naval authorities and OSK JSC where they will discuss, in particular, the progress of implementation of the import substitution program as related to marine gas turbine engines and units and the prospects of creation of new-generation marine gas turbine engines.

Today UEC-Saturn PJSC is carrying out three development activities related to marine applications: mastering of serial production of the gas turbine engine M90FR with a capacity of 27 500 h.p.; development of the gas turbine engine M70FRU-2 and the marine gas turbine units М35R-1, М35R-2 and М70R with a capacity of 10 000 h.p.; development of the engine М70FRU-R with a reverse power turbine for replacement of foreign-made engines in service on Russian ships.

The features of the new Russian marine gas turbine engines are increased performance indicators (efficiency) and extended time between overhauls as compared with the analogs applied before. UEC’s marine gas turbine engines are multifunctional and they can be used on different types of ships. That is why the current engine line is sufficient to cover the demand for gas turbine units for present day ship designs.
State-of-the-art technologies are applied in the development of new gas turbine engines. These are verified 3D technologies of designing and modeling of aerodynamic processes, heat-mass exchange and strength, which give an opportunity to reach a high level of thermo-technical, life, and strength characteristics with the minimum required number of field tests and experimental specimens. Additive technologies are widely used in the production of GTE parts. All that allows us to reduce the time of development activities for marine gas turbine engines to 3-4 years and to cut the cost of this work.
Technological concepts used in the unique marine assembly and testing facility built by UEC within the framework the contracts with the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and Rostec State Corporation on the premises of UEC-Saturn make it possible to test more than 20 different configurations of marine gas turbine units. The facility is a multi-functional cluster which does not only completely cover the current requirements of the RF as concerns power units at the stage of import substitution, but will also enable us to test advanced gas turbine engines and units. Besides it is possible to perform tests of both a marine power plant as a whole and of its components.
UEC-Saturn’s test facilities were created specifically for testing of marine gas turbine engines and units. What is more, the test bench is multipurpose and with some rework it can support tests of industrial gas turbine engines with a unit capacity of up to 40 MW.
