Rybinsk UEC-Saturn (belonging to United Engine Corporation of Rostec State Corporation) has become the organization managing Omsk Engine Design Office. Thus the holding is combining the development and manufacture of Russian small-size gas-turbine engines for drones.
Small-size engines developed and manufactured in Rybisk and Omsk are designed for drones. The fundamental requirements for such gas-turbine engines (GTE) are minimum overall sizes and weight, high efficiency and reliability.
EUC implemented the import substitution program as applied to small-size engines successfully on the premises of UEC-Saturn before: some modifications of domestic engines for drones were developed and commercialized.
During the last few years the output of small-size engines ramped up considerably.
“The processes of merging UEC-Saturn and Omsk Engine Design Office were initiated in order to consolidate their efforts aimed at the development and batch production of engines for drones, – says Ivan Markov
, Managing Director of Omsk Engine Design Office, Deputy Managing Director of UEC-Saturn for Military Engine and Special-Purpose Product Programs. – From now on the small-size engine program of Omsk Engine Design Office will progress under the guidance of UEC-Saturn. The next step will be the amalgamation of UEC-Saturn and Omsk Engine Design Office, which is scheduled for 2018. I am sure that joining efforts of Rybinsk and Omsk engine builders on the basis of our companies’ accumulated scientific and technical potential will enable us to improve the performance of production-line products as well as to create new engines for various drones to the benefit of Russian and foreign customers”.
One of the principal development trends of Omsk Engine Design Office founded in 1956 is the establishment of a modern test facility for small-size gas-turbine engines in Omsk.
The small-size engine 36MT from the UEC product line has been designed by UEC-Saturn on the basis of an engine offered by Omsk Engine Design Office. The engine is as good as its foreign analogues in terms of basic technical characteristics and excels competitors in horsepower per unit frontal area. The advantages of 36МТ are as follows: high fuel efficiency; sure start in minimum time; an integrated generator for electric power supply of a vehicle; a modern control system; resistance to overloads, impact and heat waves, long storage.
36МТ is presented in the UEC exposition booth at the International Aviation and Space Show MAKS-2017 in Zhukovsky.PJSC UEC-Saturn is an engine-manufacturing company specialized in the design and development, production and after-market support of gas turbine engines for military and commercial aviation, power generation and gas compression as well as for ships and vessels.
