Site news 18.12.2017

December 18, Rybisnk. UEC-Saturns project related to additive technologies became the best in the nomination Technical Innovation of the Year, category Engineering and Design of the Seventh Annual Prize Time of Innovations-2017 awarded for the best practices of implementation, elaboration and development of innovations in various fields. The prize numbers 22 nominations and about 50 different categories. Time of Innovations prize winners are leaders of Russian economy who define innovative activity as a priority strategy and business model. The key assessment criteria are the systematic character, range and effectiveness of companies innovative activity.

“Innovation – from an Idea to Series Production. Topological Optimization. Additive Technologies in a Modern GTE” is the name under which UEC-Saturn’s project was nominated for the Prize “Time of Innovations -2017”.

The core of the work is the developed and implemented single innovative cycle of    part design. The cycle combines the advantages of topological optimization and additive technologies. The following was achieved as a result of the application of the developed design cycle: mass of parts reduced by 30-50%; the required level of strength characteristics ensured in terms of static and dynamic strength; more than twofold saving of material versus original parts.

Roman Khramin, General Designer of UEC-Saturn, expressed his gratitude to the project team for the obtained design-engineering results: “The relevance and technological value of the presented project are based on the fact that parts for additive manufacturing undergo an iteration cycle of design and methods engineering, which ensures the minimum lead time, production cost and labour intensity of their manufacture”.

As pointed out by Aleksey Sassarin, Acting Manager of laboratory-production shop No.790, “the secret of our victory in such a prestigious contest was solidary team work at the project presented by us. Over 20 people were involved in the project – they are designers, process engineers, metallurgists and production workers. A great amount of work was done and in 2017 the project has given significant results”.

The awarding ceremony of “Time of Innovations-2017” took place on December 7-8, 2017. Within the framework of the event, there was held the conference “Innovations – Towards Qualitative Economic Growth” where the best practices were shown – from corporate projects related to the creation and development of infrastructure for innovations up to successful cases of implementation of new technologies in business and release of new products on the market.

During the conference one of the speakers delivering reports was Nikita Fedorov, a manufacturing engineer, Additive Technologies Laboratory, shop No.790, UEC-Saturn, who presented the project appreciated by the Prize jury to the general public.

“UEC-Saturn’s activity related to additive technologies has won a high appraisal of the contest expert jury. Of course, I was extremely proud to represent our company at the awarding ceremony. I would like to express my thanks to the plant management for this opportunity to present the project at such a prestigious event, - pointed out Nikita Fedorov. – We adequately represented our enterprise on the market of Russian technologies where UEC-Saturn is the leader in the application of additive technologies for gas-turbine engine manufacture”.
