PJSC "UEC-Saturn" (a part of United Engine Corporation (JSC), a Rostec State Corporation company) in Rybinsk realizes activities on establishing a scientific-and-technological groundwork required for the creation of 5th-generation marine gas turbine engines.
"A series of scientific-research and experimental-design works on the definition of 5th-generation marine gas turbine engines were performed together with industry research centers including the Baranov Central Institute of Aviation Motor Development (CIAM) and the Krylov State Research Center, - says Viktor Polyakov

Based on UEC-Saturn, United Engine Corporation implements a program on the development and industrialization of marine gas turbine engines and gas-turbine units. Experimental design works on the development and production start-up of ship gas turbine engines were successfully completed at UEC-Saturn in 2017: "M70FRU-R" ("reverse"), "DKVP unit" and "M90FR". UEC-Saturn is ready for the serial production of power plant units of maritime application.

The product improved reliability caused by compliance with severe requirements for production of significant parts is an advantage of Russian maritime gas turbine engines in comparison with Ukrainian ones produced under the manufacturing processes developed in the 1960-80s. A special emphasis should be put on low specific fuel consumption and increased time between overhauls. However, UEC's gas turbine engines for maritime application are multipurpose and can be applied in different ship classes. The existing engine line is sufficient to cover the need for gas turbine engines for modern ship designs".
The unique assembly and test facility for ship gas-turbine power units with test benches that are unique for the country and have a capacity from 15 to 40 MW was established and commissioned at UEC-Saturn before. The assembly and test facility is a cluster that meets not only the current demands of the country in maritime power units at the stage of import substitution, but will also allow testing advanced gas turbine engines and power units. It is possible to test a ship power unit in whole or in parts. The complex is a multipurpose test bench which, with necessary modifications, enables performing tests of gas turbine engines for industrial application with a unit capacity up to 40 MW.
Within the framework of implementation of the "maritime" program, the UEC-Saturn facilities were equipped with advanced production equipment. It made it possible to put a series of new manufacturing processes in production. Besides, the experience in application of digital mock-ups of engine parts having a complex three-dimensional configuration allowed reducing industrialization time.
Apart from maritime gas turbine engines and power plant units, UEC-Saturn deals with the development, production and after sale support of aircraft gas turbine engines, gas-turbine power plant units used for oil and gas transportation and power generation as well. In particular, the enterprise produces D30-KP engines for transport aviation and special-purpose small-size gas turbine engines.
