The largest manufacturing of gas turbine engine blades starts to work in Rybinsk at the premises of PJSC UEC-Saturn (a part of United Engines Corporation of Rostec State Corporation Company). Investments into the project are more than 3 bln.rubles.
An innovative production will enable to produce annually the components for more than two thousand engines – Russian and foreign. On a 20 thousand square meters area more than 180 units of state-of-the art high tech equipment are installed, it will increase labour capacity by 60%. In 2020 UEC will double the volumes of production – up to 280 thousands of blades per annum. By 2024 the output of the Center shall shall increase sevenfold – it is planned to produce there about 800 thousands production units, for foreign partners also.
“Turbine blade is one of the most knowledge intensive and difficult-to-make components of gas turbine engines for aviation, marine vessels, and energetics. Such products are manufactured by six countries in the world only. It requires very complicated calculations at design stage and very high accuracy during manufacturing. New digital technologies introduced at UEC give an opportunity to obtain world level production. In the process accuracy of production increases by 30%, blades production costs decrease by 50%, labor costs decrease by 40 %. To say the least, the project leads Russian engine-building to the new level and makes it possible to pretend to the leading positions in this high-tech segment,” – comments Vladimir Artyakov
, the first deputy General Director of Rostec State Corporation.
“Transformation of the industrial model by means of creation of the Centers of Excellence (CoE) is the main project of UEC aimed at increasing the competitiveness and efficiency of the corporation activity. In total it is planned to establish 25 centers. Today we opened at UEC-Saturn one of the biggest Centers of Excellence “Turbine Blades”. It is very important that this production is certified in accordance with international standards and it can work within chains creating not only Russian and but also foreign engines,” - says Alexander Artyukhov
, JSC UEC’s General Director.
In the foundry shop an innovative technology is introduced – monocrystal casting into ceramic molds as per lost wax process. This method gives an opportunity to save expensive rough material (special heat-resistant alloys) and to produce blades for gas turbine engines with strict geometrical tolerances up to 0,05 mm. However, further manual polishing that was mandatory at production before upgrading, will not be required.
In the process of modernization unique environmentally safe technologies were used. For example, cooling of manufacturing equipment is performed by recycling water system, and in venting systems there are filters with 100% efficiency of cleaning. The new shop will give places of work to 300 people. United Engine Corporation (JSC) (a Rostec State Corporation company) is an integrated organization specialized in the design and development, serial production and after-market support of engines for military and commercial aviation, space programs, the Navy as well as for the oil and gas industry and power generation.
