June 15, 2020, Rybinsk. – The metrological department of UEC-Saturn (part of United Engine Corporation, a Rostec State Corporation company) succeeded in demonstrating their competencies in instrument verification and extended the instrument list for the measurements the department can take.“UEC-Saturn’s metrological department annually verifies and calibrates over 67 thousand measuring instruments. As required by the current rules of the RF, in order to be able to carry out such activities an organization should be accredited and then should demonstrate their competence on a regular basis. For competence demonstration to be successful it is required to have associated documentation available, trained and qualified personnel, premises satisfying verification requirements as well as reference standards registered in accordance with the established procedure,”
pointed out Dmitry Barvinok
, Chief Metrologist of UEC-Saturn. “In December, 2019 UEC-Saturn was subjected to an on-site expertise of the Federal Service for Accreditation so as to demonstrate their competence in instrument verification. The outcome of that work is reflected in RusAccreditation’s order issued on 20th May, 2020 which is the World Metrology Day.”
UEC-Saturn’s metrological department develops their competencies pursuant to production tasks. The department improves technologies aimed at optimizing measurement processes applied to the geometrical parameters of parts and assembly units for commercial engines and at introducing new high-performance measuring methods, including a noncontact one. In particular, at the moment they are mastering the geometry measurement process for PD-14 fan blades with 3D-scanning systems and introducing geometry measurements processes for turbine disk slots with a projector. Efficiency is also in focus. The metrological department implements projects targeted at raising the level of traceability of measuring instruments and inspection tools in production, at cutting material and time costs in instrument verification and calibration, at automating the management of orders for the development of measurement programs for control and measuring equipment.
In addition, it is planned to perform a comparative analysis of the cost and duration of instrument verification activities at UEC-Saturn and in outside organizations. Following this work, UEC-Saturn’s accreditation scope for instrument verification (calibration) will be updated. Besides, as required by the ILAC, the assigned task is to be accredited by the Federal Service for Accreditation for the calibration of measuring instruments used in SaM146 engine repair.PJSC "UEC-Saturn" is an engine-manufacturing company specialized in the design and development, production and after-market support of gas turbine engines for commercial aviation, power generation and gas compression as well as for ships and vessels.
