August 17, 2020. Three new equipment units for layered selective laser fusion of metallic powders with operational area overall dimensions from 250 to 400 mm were put in operation at PJSC UEC-Saturn in the framework of the "Additive Technologies Development at JSC UEC" investment project.
The introduction of the new equipment makes it possible to significantly expand pilot production capabilities at PJSC UEC-Saturn in the context of development and introduction of parts and assembly units specifically designed for the production process using additive technologies and even to double its production rate.
When producing the parts with the application of additive technologies, production lead time of parts and components is significantly reduced versus the production using traditional technologies, and industrialization costs are reduced as well. The introduction of additive technologies in the production cycles enables the enterprise to successfully complete worthwhile tasks and to substantially reduce the dates of new products entry at the market.
Every year, the additive technologies center located on Saturn's pilot plant premises enlarges the line of developed components and their output. "In the context of the "Additive technologies at JSC UEC" project aimed at completion of a strategic mission to reduce the development time, industrialization cost and entry of high-tech, competitive products at the global market,
- points out Denis Fedoseev
, Deputy Chief Engineer of the pilot plant for Saturn's additive technologies, "Additive technologies in JSC UEC" project manager , - activities are under way to outline a project of R&D additive technologies centers, which include complementary subdivisions - design-engineering plateaus, additive production research and development sites. The established centers are furnished with the equipment required to carry out activities on the design and manufacture of development parts for gas turbine engines, tests and parts introduction in the design."
The introduction of additive technologies in a value chain is ensured by the alloys developed at PJSC UEC-Saturn, which were qualified in Federal State Unitary Enterprise VIAM in 2020 and were put in the limiting list of materials recommended for use in the aeronautical engineering; production of these materials was mastered by lead Russian metallurgical companies.
Nowadays, additive technologies are applied at PJSC UEC-Saturn at production of almost all product lines.
