UEC-Saturn hosted the professional skills competition among CNC-machine operators/setup men within the frame of the UEC V Corporate Championship

April 29, 2019, Rybinsk. – On April 24-26, 2019 the UEC-Saturn Training Center hosted a professional skills competition in the skill "Operator/setup man of turning/milling CNC-machines". It is the fifth year the methods of WorldSkills international professional competitions have been used in this contest for.

The professional skills competition was held as part of the UEC V Corporate Championship among 14 enterprises included in the Corporation. The Corporate Championship aimed at raising the enterprises' personnel professional skill level and developing knowledge of the current engine-building trends.

The UEC-Saturn professional skills competition was held in two competences - "CNC Turning" and "CNC Milling" and in two nominations -
-    UEC-Saturn's Best Experienced Professional in the skill "CNC-machine operator/setup man";
-    UEC-Saturn's Best Young Professional in the skill "CNC-machine operator/setup man" (under 28 years old).

23 contestants took part in the competition: 11 operators/setup men of turning CNC-machines and 10 operators/setup men of milling CNC-machines from the UEC-Saturn production director's departments and experimental plant shops.  Two third-year students of the specific educational institution - Rybinsk Industrial and Economic College - participated in the CNC Turning competence competition for the second time.

Dmitry Barvinok, UEC-Saturn HR director: "Professional skills competitions are intended to meet three important challenges. Firstly, it is promotion of trades that are in high demand nowadays. Our production ramp-up creates a need for qualified specialists who could operate modern precision machinery. Secondly, we reveal our best workers during professional skills competitions. Thirdly, we demonstrate our specialists' qualification level within the corporation and, maybe, even within the National championship.  Moreover, it is the second time college students have taken part in the competition, and it is important for us that the required level of competences is, to a considerable extent, developed in educational institutions." 

The winners were announced at the closing ceremony after the three competition days. The following people became "UEC-Saturn's best experienced professionals in the skill "CNC-machine operator/setup man":

in the competence "Turning operations": 1st place – Dmitry A. Ivanov, a category 6 NC machine and manipulator setup man, workshop 32; 2nd place - Aleksandr A. Venikov, a category 6 NC machine and manipulator setup man, workshop 5; 3rd place - Sergey A. Pavlov, a category 6 NC machine and manipulator setup man, workshop 32.

in the competence "Milling operations": 1st place - Georgy G. Fedorov, a category 5 NC machine operator, workshop 5; 2nd place - Roman V. Polivin, a category 5 NC operator, workshop 45; 3rd place – Ivan V. Sudakov, a category 6 NC machine and manipulator setup man, workshop 711.

"UEC-Saturn's best young professionals in the skill "CNC-machine operator/setup man" are as follows:

in the competence "Turning operations": 1st place - Dmitry V. Perfilyev, a category 3 NC machine operator, workshop 12; 2nd place - Aleksandr S. Maslennikov, a third-year student of Rybinsk Industrial and Economic College; 3rd place - Andrey V. Egorov, a category 4 NC machine operator, workshop 5.

in the competence "Milling operations": 1st place - Aleksey A. Kalinin, a category 4 NC machine operator, workshop 5; 2nd place - Sergey N. Vikhrov, a category 4 NC operator, workshop 57;

3rd place - Aleksandr S. Razhev, a category 4 NC machine operator, workshop 794.

Dmitry Ivanov, an NC machine and manipulator setup man of shop 32, the competition winner in the competence "Turning operations": "It's great that such a competition exists and is held every year, having become a good tradition. The participants' professional skill level is growing noticeably, and the skills acquired during the competition are of no doubt helpful for work. It was not easy to perform the competition task, some nervousness was an obstacle, but in order to win I had to gain a victory over myself, to get over my nerves and to pull myself together. Of course, the support from my family and colleagues, my skills, experience and a little luck helped me win."

In accordance with the competition results, all its winners and prize winners were presented with diplomas and valuable certificates. Besides, in each nomination and competence they will be given a bonus of 3000 – 5000 rubles to their wages for a year.

Following profession skills competitions in all the UEC companies, an overall rating will be complied for each competence and nomination, winners will be selected and awarded. The award presentation of the fifth Corporate Championship will take place on the UEC site in Moscow in May 2019 during the Corporate Championship closing ceremony.

Winners in the nomination "The Best Young Professional" will be able to take part in a selection of Rostec State Corporation.  The best ones will receive preliminary training and then will be recommended for the participation in the National Hi-Tech Championship.
